2005 - Present: Vice President of Research and Development
  • Designed and brought into production a complete VoIP platform based on open technologies enabling Bandwidth.com to offer extremely high volume origination / termination services to large enterprise accounts.
  • Designed a fault tolerant node architecture for Bandwidth.com's high availability VoIP network and deployed it in multiple server farms around the United States.

2002 - 2005: Chief Technology Officer
  • As employee number 14 at a $600,000 annual revenue, instituted the technical direction necessary to grow the company to 60+ employees and over $11M annual revenue.
  • Designed and built from scratch the core computing platform driving the business including:
    • Hardened name servers, mail servers, routers, firewalls, a dynamic web serving environment and a distributed pricing environment all deployed on Linux.
    • Instituted "sandbox" style Java / JSP development environments for all developers with a CVS code repository.
    • Code design and implementation of Java / JSP sites running Bandwidth.com's website and internal / customer / carrier / partner extranets and fully branded partner sites for clients such as CNet and Dell.
    • Conceived of and created key products used to differentiate Bandwidth.com including one of the Internet's most popular Speed Tests. (currently 4x more popular than the Bandwidth.com homepage)
    • Integrated the custom distributed pricing system with Dell's internal sales systems and external customer facing systems which demanded extremely stringent uptime guarantees and very high loads.
  • Point person for strategic relationships between Bandwidth.com and partners such as Dell and CNet
  • Designed the Bandwidth.com logo and created the design guidelines for its use.

  • Designed and built an Internet department for Imagine Media bringing them global and public.
  • Built a staging and publishing system used by all Imagine properties.
  • Built a world class Linux based server farm delivering well over 10 million hits per day of both static and dynamic content.
  • Integral in leading the design and coding of the Future Content Management System, an in-house content system using Oracle, written in Java / JSP and running completely on Linux.
  • Deployed the content system in the European offices.
  • Managed a core team of webmasters and systems administrators
  • Designed and constructed the Future Content Management System (FCMS) for Imagine Media / Future Network. FCMS runs all of Imagine Media's dynamic web properties. The global group is also rolling FCMS out in other countries. System was built in Java, JSP, Javascript, WebMacro, DHTML, XML, XSL, Resin, Oracle on Linux.

Dow Jones (WBIS), New York
1997: Systems Administrator / Animator / Programmer
  • Java, C++, Perl and SQL for custom real-time market data acquisition system.
  • Built and ran a real-time 3D rendering system for Dow Jones television to display up to the second market averages for daily live TV broadcasts. Market models from an SGI Indigo2 running Alias Power Animator were injected with real-time elements from a Sybase database of live market feeds and queued by a Java program at the producer's NT Workstation and played on the Onyx Reality Engines. System was built with Power Animator, Inventor, Sybase, C++, Perl and Java.
